The book “BANDING IS MY LIFE” by Denzil Stephens is still available direct from Sarnia Music Publishing, at the reduced price of £10.00 post free for a limited time.
The book deals with life in Guernsey in the Channel Isles as a boy up to the age of ten, then life in Halifax Yorkshire up to the age of twenty one, which includes his time as Solo Euphonium with the famous Black Dyke Mills band .
The next stage of Denzil’s life is with the Royal Air Force Music Services, from 1951up to 1978, when he resigned his commission as a Director of Music to return to brass bands. Denzil took Carlton Main to glory with a win in TV’s Best of Brass, following this up with several successes with The Cory band of Wales.
The book continues with Denzil’s eventual move to Cornwall

Denzil at the age of 82 has been playing Euphonium with the Bodmin Town band, and continues to make up a foursome with the Lostwithiel Tuba Quartet.
He is extending his term of training and conducting the Lostwithiel Town band to an indeterminate period as he enjoys working with this team of local musicians.
SOUNDHOUSE BRASS, and STORM BRASS , both Devon bands have also used Denzil’s experience over the past months, as their regular conductors have been elsewhere.

of living things.
