About us
Sarnia Music Publishing was started in 1978 by Denzil Stephens and his late wife
Glenys when they were living in Gloucestershire, having just retired from a life in the
Royal Air Force Music Services.
Denzil had played Solo euphonium with the famous Black Dyke Mills band
from 1945 -
until successfully passing the Bandmasters course and obtaining ARCM, and LRAM
Qualifications for brass and military bandmastership.
Denzil played tenor tuba (Euphonium) with several London orchestras during the
three years of studies at the RAF School of Music .
He became a commissioned Director of Music in 1951, directing bands in the UK and in Cyprus. Denzil resigned from the RAF in 1978, and had a successful period conducting
Brass bands in competition including Point of Ayr, (Pontins Champions ), Carlton Main
Frickley Colliery ( Winners Best of Brass ), The Cory Band (several local contests, including BBC Wales Best of Brass, Yeovil Entertainment, European Champions, Pontins Champions ) and many other contest wins.
It is not surprising that with this vast experience of playing and conducting at the highest level, and adjudicating in the UK and in Europe Denzil was able to use this experience in starting the music publishing business Sarnia Music.
Denzil uses JUST MUSIC as his main agent for publications, but has also used Band Supplies (Leeds ), and Trevada Music (Cornwall )
