Welcome once again to the Sarnia Music web site.

Sarnia, the old Roman name for Guernsey, has been the name of this music publishing company for over 30 years, run by Denzil Stephens LRAM,ARCM, composer, arranger, conductor, former solo euphonium with Black Dyke Mills band in the late 40’s, the RAF Central band in the early 50’s, later Director of Music for established bands within the Royal Air Force.    Denzil resigned his commission in 1978 to return to brass bands, and had huge successes in the contesting field, especially with the Cory Band of Wales.

Denzil now resides in Cornwall where he is very busy with musical activities in that county, playing either euphonium or baritone with the Bodmin Town band , training and conducting the Lostwithiel Town band, teaching brass to young people in the area, and composing music for beginner brass groups.

Players from the 1980 Cory band recently engaged Denzil to conduct a band of about 33 players who had been associated with the 1980 band in a concert of Denzil’s compositions and arrangements previously featured by the band.

There is a strong possibility this may be repeated next year.  The enthusiastic audience demanded two encores, and many expressed their hope that we would present another concert in the same vicinity soon.

The latest arrangement by Denzil, played as a

second encore  at the above concert is a brass

band arrangement of “Cwm Rhondda”, which had

instant approval from the welsh players, and was

enthusiastically applauded by the welsh audience.
